Residents’ Council Elections at Atrium Village

Voting season is upon us – and we don’t mean the 2024 presidential election! On September 24th and 25th, Atrium Village held its Residents’ Council Election, where Independent and Assisted Living residents voted to elect their next President and Vice Presidents of the council, as well as a few other roles on the ballot. Residents were very enthusiastic about the election, and there was a great voter turnout!

Presidential elections for the council are held every two years, with votes cast via paper ballots overseen by our Events and Adventures Director and Assistants. The Residents' Council acts as the voice of residents to help the administration choose outings, address concerns, and orient new residents.

The weeks leading up to the election featured campaigning, posters around the community, and a debate for candidates to discuss their platforms. In the running for president were two Baltimore natives: Ray Piz and the incumbent president Marvelyn Foster. Though competitors on the election field, Ray and Marvelyn are friends and even attended Atrium Village’s first annual prom together last year.

Meet the Presidential Candidates

Ray Piz was a high school math teacher for 30 years and served on the Board of Education for 8 years. He is actively involved in the Movie and Food Committees and has a direct leadership style. His platform focuses on increasing resident involvement and organizing more frequent social activities (such as movie marathons and happy hours).

Marvelyn Foster, the current President, previously served as Secretary on the council and has a strong background in organizing events and running holiday celebrations. During her current two-year term, she has been instrumental in organizing outings, welcoming new residents, and leading the Hospitality and Outing Committees. Her platform is based on bringing more big events to the community, organizing larger off-campus excursions, and continuing to welcome new residents to the community.
